SDN offering NetWeaver subscriptions
The SAP Developer Network, SDN, has just rolled out a new subscription program that might be of interest to those learning NetWeaver development. The package is a one-year subscription bundle that gives SAP professionals and beginners alike a full development toolset for ABAP and Java with the latest patches, test environments, and fringe benefits on the SDN site. The subscription costs $2,300 per year (no monthly option available) and is currently only available in USA and Germany.
Those going to TechEd in Las Vegas next week will probably hear more about it there; stay tuned as we cover this more in-depth from the event front lines.

Matt, I thought this was a good summary of what took place in the “ESA in Action” day long session on Community Day. One thing I found interesting was that SAP showed a slide that acknowledged confusion about SAP’s eSOA strategy. The reasons cited included:
- lack of clarity on SAP’s eSOA strategy and how it varied from the “agnostic” approach to SOA.
- lack of understanding of how SAP eSOA could provide a solid value proposition and justify the investment via strong ROI.
- a need for more information about how eSOA integrates into an SAP customer’s existing SAP installation.
I was impressed to see SAP openly acknowledging this confusion, and it seems clear that a major them of TechEd 2007 will be to clear up some of these issues and provide a better understanding of SAP’s eSOA roadmap. I guess in a couple of days we’ll have a better idea of whether SAP has pulled this off.
